ACC 5 OF 2013 - Republic vs John Njoroge Chege

Summary: The accused was arraigned in court for soliciting and receiving a bribe from the Project Manager of Ramagon Construction Limited, which had been contracted to construct tuition blocks at Baba Dogo Secondary School. The contractor completed the project and was issued with a certificate of completion. The contractor through the project manager then began pursuing their final payment of KES. 3,342,716.77 with the CDF Manager, where he was referred to the accused person for talks in which the accused solicited from the Project Manager KES. 100,000 for his payment to be processed. He reported the matter to the EACC who fitted him with a recording device for his next meeting with the accused person, in which meeting the accused solicited for 100,000 shillings and a further 50,000 shillings for the CDF Committee. The EACC tagged 100,000 shilling notes and handed them to the project manager, who in a subsequent meeting, handed the money to the accused person. The project manager then beeped the EACC officers who came and arrested the accused.
